When To Call The Bedbug Exterminator
New York City has been hit hard by insect pests, like lice, bedbugs, and mites. The bedbug exterminator is plying his trade with gusto in NYC. The bedbug has also invaded most hotel chains. A guest most likely will pack his or her clothes and bring the bedbug home with them thus infesting their own bedrooms.
However, the bedbug outbreak is not confined to the US, Australia, the UK, or any other single country. Thanks to increased international travel and immigration, bedbugs are in nearly every country in the world. A recent survey by a well-known pest control company found bedbugs in forty-three different US states. Bedbugs have been confirmed in NYC, Las Vegas, Nevada, Los Angeles, Dallas, Texas, South Carolina, Oregon, Colorado, and in Indiana within the last few months. Some bedbug and lice infestations have even forced temporary closures of apartment complexes and hotels while the bedbug exterminator does his work with his magic sprays and powders.
Bedbugs are parasites. They rely on other warm-blooded creatures to feed themselves. More specifically, bedbugs feed solely on blood, and, for the most common strain of bedbugs, human blood, even more specifically, your blood. Bedbugs feed mostly at night, by piercing the skin with a sharp "beak" and drinking until full. Often the host is completely unaware he or she has been bitten.
For most people, bites are often the first sign of an infestation. The bedbug bite will appear as a small welt, similar to a mosquito bite except the adult bedbug actually takes quite a large blood meal on the order of ten times that of a mosquito. Bedbug bites are often mistaken for mosquito bites. The red welts can be very irritable and itchy, however, not all biting parasites are bedbugs. The most reliable sign of bedbug infestation, is small red or brown spots on mattresses, box springs, or bed clothing. These small spots are the parasites' excrement, and are a far more reliable indication of their presence.
Call the bedbug exterminator if you find any of the evidence mentioned above. If you are going to try and tackle this bedbug infestation yourself, you should be aware that they can hide in almost any nook or cranny. Usually, you must perform bedbug treatment along walls, carpets, and borders; such as wall paper. The carpet should be steam cleaned to get to the bedbugs where insecticides often cannot reach. All furniture should have the drawers removed, and every nook and cranny inside the furniture treated and inspected carefully. Clothing, bedding, and all cloth material should be laundered in hot water. If you have bedbugs, anywhere and everywhere you can imagine a bedbug being, there is most likely one there. It is probably best to call a professional bedbug exterminator.
